Bridging Programme for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
The Bridging Programme is designed to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills required to successfully progress into the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSc CS). It serves as a transition pathway for students who wish to continue their studies in the bachelor programme in Computer Science at the Applied Science University (ASU).
The Bridging Programme is open to students who have completed diploma or associate-degree in related disciplines from the Kingdom of Bahrain or its equivalent from outside the Kingdom, providing that the certificate is accredited by the relevant authorities in the country granting the certificate. The programme is specifically designed to accommodate learners who need to fill knowledge gaps before progressing into the full BSc in Computer Science degree.
Structure and progression
More than the general 3 compulsory courses required by the HEC, the students are required to take from 0 to 3 remedial courses out of 6 selected making it a comprehensive foundation for higher-level study, one as mentioned in the study plan.
- The HEC mandatory courses: These courses provide students with a well-rounded educational background, promoting cultural, ethical, and linguistic competencies alongside technical skills.
- The remedial courses: These courses introduce students to programming paradigms, problem-solving, data organization, database management, and software development principles, ensuring they can handle advanced computing topics in the degree programme.
Completion of the Bridging Programme enables students to seamlessly transition into the BSc in Computer Science study plan, starting from the third year‘s courses such as Artificial Intelligence, Systems Analysis and Design, Database Development, Operating Systems, etc. The student should carry on 2 years of study including the programme compulsory courses and 5 elective courses (2 from Group 1 and 3 from Group 3) (see the study plan).
